The Day of Progressive economy is a two-day hybrid congress organised by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in partnership with FEPS, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), and the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK).
We are embarking on the frequently invoked βdecade of modernisation,β which will be accompanied by massive investment and expenditure needs. However, in the wake of the Corona pandemic, public debt in Germany and Europe has grown to record levels. The question of war and peace in Europe has also returned in full force. The economic and social consequences will be immense. The European and global economy is facing new uncertainties.

Sanctions on Russia: the German and wider European debate

Secretary General, assess the ongoing debate on the sanctions on Russia in Germany and in the rest of Europe.
They discuss what could be the consequences of harder decisions related to the oil and gas imports from Russia and how the current situation can affect the EU competitiveness and economic growth potential.
